Home, Part 2

I have many favorite spots in our new home however; I view our bedroom as a sanctuary. This room is exceptionally quiet and the perfect place for silence and sleep. I purchased our bed when I was nineteen years old. It was the first new bed I slept in since I was probably eight years old. It was special. Since then, the bed has traveled throughout Fort Worth, to California, and now, to Arkansas.

Despite the bed being an old friend, there are some things that are relatively new. For instance, Domo, the cute furry guy with the angry face. Jason purchased Domo for me as a silly little gift. I love him. I love how he embraces his anger. The pillow with the whale on the front is a handmade pillow purchased from Etsy. The front says, “LIFE”, and the back says, “A whale of a time”. Above our bed hangs the photo we affectionately refer to as “Allison”, as our friend, Allison V. Smith took the photo. The photo is actually titled Marfa Lights and was taken in Marfa, Texas – a very special place for Jason and I. I have always found this photo to be magical.

Next to our bed, on my side, is our Le Corbusier LC2 chair. I have a tiny end table and lamp, making this the perfect spot for me to sit and read.

Two chairs in the library

If you look up whilst reading from the chair, you will see two of my favorite friends sitting atop the armoire. Elephant and Piggie! I have a soft spot for Elephant and Piggie books, as I find them incredibly funny and endearing. I bought Q a set as a gift one day and, upon giving them away, found that I missed them in our home. So, Jason bought me my own set for my birthday last year in addition to a signed copy of Elephants Cannot Dance! – my favorite of the series.

Directly to the right of the armoire is a delightful painting that we recently had framed to match some of our other art pieces. The painting was made by Betty Blevins, Jason’s grandmother. Betty wanted us to have one of her paintings as our wedding gift from her. We both chose this incredible watercolor. I think this painting is perfect in our sanctuary both for its soothing colors and intimate story.

If you let your gaze move a bit to the right, you will see our tiny sitting area with another chair in addition to an old antique dresser that my grandmother gave me when I was about fifteen.

Atop of the dresser are some of our favorite art books, a perfume jar and wooden box of my mother’s, and two birds. These are no ordinary birds as they were purchased at Canoe in Portland during our honeymoon. We simply love these birds!

Finally, just as your gaze makes its way back to our bed, you will see Cosby’s treehouse. Jason and I purchased this at IKEA last year for our previous home. Cosby took to the treehouse instantly and we knew we would have to bring it with us to Arkansas.

Now, fellow adventurers, we have made our way through room two of our home. This was a special look into our little sanctuary here in Arkansas. I hope you enjoyed and I look forward to making our way into another special room very soon!
