One of my favorite ways to lose track of time is to revel in the delights of my favorite foodie blogs. Judging by the number of foodie blogs out there right now, I am not the only one. The sheer volume of blogs devoted to culinary explorations is rather overwhelming and I have, on more than one occasion, appreciated the guidance of others. Over time I have compiled a list of my own favorites. Each site serves up something a wee bit different. Drumroll…
Oh Joy Eats
A fan of Oh Joy for a long time, this is Joy’s food version of her namesake blog. Less recipes than fun explorations involving food, Oh Joy Eats follows the writer on her travels as she makes new discoveries.
Sunday Suppers
A recent find. I found this blog to be a bit of a kindred spirit in that Sundays are typically a day of feasting in our home. For instance, this past Sunday included: scrambled eggs on toast slathered with cream cheese and chives with a tiny side of bacon for brunch and a decadent mushroom lasagna with bechamel sauce for dinner.
Smitten Kitchen
A new favorite and frequent source of inspiration. I recently found and printed at least a dozen recipes to try. The blog is wonderfully written with beautiful photos. The author, Deb, is down to earth, knowledgeable, and shares recipes that are very much up my alley. I prepared her mushroom lasagna just the other night and can attest to her abilities. Tres bon!
Elle’s New England Kitchen
I’ve had the privilege of engaging with Elle on many occasions and she is always friendly, grateful for feedback, as well as quite fun. Her blog reflects all of these qualities in addition to a good dose of humility. She isn’t trying to be the latest and greatest foodie blog, although her affable demeanor may attest to something different. I love her photos of New England (she resides in New Hampshire) in addition to her different themes throughout the year. Elle also offers up a newsletter that she ever-so-conveniently sends via email.
La Tartine Gourmande
Bea stole my heart with her French cuisine long ago on La Tartine Gourmande. Through her blog I learned to make risotto in addition to a plethora of other French delights. Being culinary Francophiles in our house, we adore her blog. Her posts are well-written and always accompanied by breathtaking photos, often of France. She is working on a cookbook and in the process of renovating a kitchen however, she still finds time to check in. I recommend checking out her previous posts for incredible recipes.
Cannelle et Vanille
Another great find if you’re in the mood for French food.
From Me to You
From Me To You isn’t necessarily a foodie blog however, Jamie Beck is a brilliant food photographer. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Beck often uses a Hasselblad to capture scenes around her. While not all posts are devoted to food, I have From Me To You bookmarked and it is one of the few blogs I try to check daily. One of my favorite food posts delicately shows the steps in creating herb roasted chicken. Delightful indeed.
And last but certainly not least is my friend, Emily. Eating To Run is a daily stop for me and I often find inspiration in connecting with Emily over meals and ideas. She is, to make an appropriate pun, a good egg.
What foodie blogs do you check in with on a regular basis, readers?

Hey Jen! Thanks a bunch for the awesome list of blogs to visit. I love Smitten Kitchen as well – the others are all new to me. Exciting! :)
I really enjoy (never home)maker and The Edible Perspective. Both blogs feature awesome recipes and are simple but amazing.
Have a great day.
Emily – I will check out the blogs you mentioned, for sure!
Hi Jen,
Thanks for sharing.
I’m like you, I end up loosing track of time and going down many rabbit trails as I look at various food related sites.
I recently discovered What Katie Ate (whatkatieate.blogspot.com). It’s “A Foodie Photography Blog” by a gal down under in Sydney. Where else would you find a A Chocolate Guinness Cake. :)
- Kyle
ps. I’m a former Dallasite and am jealous that you work at the Kimbell. It’s been too long since I’ve been there. The last exhibit I saw there was Margaret Bourke White. See! Too long. :)
Kyle – How funny that you mention the Chocolate Guiness Cake, as I just printed that from Katie’s website last week! I will not give you too hard of a time for mentioning that you are a former Dallasite, since you mentioned Fort Worth extensively. :) The Amon Carter actually has a fabulous exhibition right now, American Modern, that features the photographs of Margaret Bourke White. In fact, I posted about the exhibition here: http://www.thedeanfiles.com/2010/10/06/american-modern-at-the-amon-carter-museum-of-american-art/
Thanks for much for the comment!
thanks so much for the nice shout out! ;)-joy
