Last night I finished Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

I packed this book for our Washington, D.C. trip, just under a month ago, and made serious headway on the flight home. It always takes me a while to finish a book due to my schedule however; I finished this selection in quite the speedy fashion, as compared to some previous endeavors. In fact, I believe I am finally finding my stride in the reading department, as I have made my way through several books already this year. Where, when younger, reading used to be commonplace and it was not unheard of that I would finish a book in a matter of days, between rising for the gym at 5:30 each morning and rarely sitting down before 9:00 in the evenings, I have found it very difficult to devote much time to reading at all in recent years. I have made it a priority to change this over the past few months and I think I am beginning to see results from my commitment. Yes!
With this being said, I am ready to select my next book! After finishing Devil in the White City last night, I made my way to our bookshelves in an attempt to form a mental list of what I could conquer next. My list was as follows:
Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin
Phantoms in the Brain by VS Ramachandran
Dan Flavin Rooms of Light: Works of the Panza Collection from Villa Panza, Varese & The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum by Angele Vettese
In true Jen fashion, I decided in the shower which one shall come next. I also decided which book shall follow that one. I am prepared and ready! With no further ado, here is my revelation…
First, Rooms of Light. Second, Isaac’s Storm by Erik Larson. Ha! I surprised you, didn’t I? Isaac’s Storm was not even on my list. Please, stick around for more tricks, folks. I have oh so many up my sleeve.

I think you are going to love Isaac’s Storm! It’s a bit less creepy than Devil in the White City, but still very compelling. I am also interested to hear what you think about the Flavin book, as I might want to read that at some point when you are done.
It was super creepy. But I found it very compelling. I will send you a message about the Flavin book. Haha.
I loved Devil in the White City, but I never could get into his Thunderstruck. Along the same lines I am planning on reading The Girls of Murder City – have you heard anything about it?
Carolyn,
Thunderstruck looks great but I haven’t picked it up yet. I think I will see how Isaac’s Storm goes first.
I have not heard of The Girls of Murder City. I did look it up on Amazon though and it sounds intriguing. Definitely a different angle on Chicago. I wil be very interested to hear what you think. I think I would prefer this book over the musical!
